Die Metropole ist eines der gr\u00f6\u00dften und am dichtesten besiedelten Ballungsgebiete der Welt und ein f\u00fchrendes Finanzzentrum Indiens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An der Uferpromenade des Hafens von Mumbai steht der ikonische Steinbogen \u201eGateway of India\u201c, der 1924 von der britischen Herrschaft errichtet wurde. Auf der vor der K\u00fcste gelegenen nahegelegenen Insel Elephanta befinden sich alte H\u00f6hlentempel, die dem Hindu-Gott Shiva gewidmet sind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Urspr\u00fcnglich bestand Mumbai aus sieben verschiedenen Inseln. Doch zwischen 1784 und 1845 f\u00fchrten britische Ingenieure alle sieben Inseln zusammen und vereinigten sie zu einer gro\u00dfen Landmasse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Stadt ist als Zentrum der Bollywood-Filmindustrie bekannt. Sie ist eine Mischung aus ikonischer Architektur mit dem Charme der alten Welt und auffallend modernen Hochh\u00e4usern. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>801.000 Menschen sind Hindus, 11.510.000 Muslime und nur 11.000.000 Christen.
