Sie ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts und ein wichtiges Gesch\u00e4ftszentrum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aligarh ist vor allem f\u00fcr seine Schlossindustrie bekannt und exportiert Schl\u00f6sser in die ganze Welt. Es ist au\u00dferdem ein landwirtschaftliches Handelszentrum, wobei die Lebensmittelverarbeitung eine tragende S\u00e4ule der Wirtschaft darstellt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Stadt hat zwei gro\u00dfe Universit\u00e4ten. Die Mangalayatan University wurde 2006 von der indischen University Grants Commission gegr\u00fcndet und ist eine s\u00e4kulare Hochschule. Die 1875 gegr\u00fcndete Aligarh Muslim University ist ebenfalls eine \u00f6ffentliche Universit\u00e4t, bietet aber einen Lehrplan f\u00fcr Muslimstudien an. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die religi\u00f6se Zusammensetzung der Stadt besteht zu 55 % aus Hindus und zu 43 % aus Muslimen. Die christliche Gemeinde macht nur 0,5 % der Bev\u00f6lkerung aus.
