On the Mumbai Harbor waterfront stands the iconic Gateway of India stone arch, built by the British Raj in 1924. Offshore, nearby Elephanta Island holds ancient cave temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initially, Mumbai was made up of 7 different islands. However, between the years of 1784 and 1845, British engineers brought all 7 islands together and unified it to be one large landmass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
