Istana Maimun yang besar dan Masjid Agung Medan berbentuk segi delapan mendominasi pusat kota, memadukan gaya Islam dan Eropa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lokasi kota ini menjadikannya pusat perdagangan internasional utama di Indonesia bagian barat, dengan ekspor ke Amerika Utara, Eropa, dan Timur Tengah. Cukup banyak perusahaan internasional yang berkantor di Medan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kota ini memiliki 72 universitas, politeknik, dan perguruan tinggi yang terdaftar, dan merupakan rumah bagi 2,4 juta orang. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Penduduk Medan sebagian besar beragama Islam, berjumlah sekitar 66% dari jumlah penduduk. Demografi Kristen yang substansial (sekitar 25% dari total penduduk) mencakup umat Katolik, Metodis, Lutheran, dan Gereja Protestan Kristen Batak.
